Schoolhouse Expo Helper

by CindyMay 23rd, 2011

Last week, during the Schoolhouse Expo event, I set my computer equipment up in my bedroom and kept the door closed all day. My three boys (10, 7, and 3) knew they weren’t supposed to come in unless they were certain I wasn’t speaking on the air, and I usually sent them back out again before I needed to speak.

During one session, though, my youngest son, Robert, stayed in the room while I announced the door prizes for the hour. He was very careful not to talk but made lots of little breathy-noises and tapped his hands on the bed as if to say, “I’m not talking, Mommy, but I can’t possibly be silent!”

After I was finished, I put my headphones on him and took this picture:

Now, I know I’m partial – but isn’t he just too cute?

- Cindy

PS: I’m working hard on the door prize drawings and hope to have all the winners selected by tomorrow!

Reflections on the March Preshow

by SharraMarch 16th, 2011

Last evening was the March Preshow which kicked off our spring “Homeschooling with Heart” Schoolhouse Expo. We had such a wonderful time listening to inspiring speakers, sharing sweet fellowship with homeschool families, and also giving out some really great door prizes from our generous sponsors.

Here is a recap of the March Preshow sessions:

Terri Johnson, of Knowledge Quest, Inc. started off the evening sessions with Should We Teach With Tech? It was a very informative session on how to make the best use of technology for students K-12 including tips on how to monitor internet safety. Terri provided a great overview of apps for the iPad and even gave a preview of the new Wonders of Old app just released by Knowledge Quest, Inc. Terri also shared and overview of the new Expedition Earth geography resource by author Cindy Horton, who is also the Assistant Manager of the Schoolhouse Expo. The Knowledge Quest, Inc. vendor booth features a few freebies for you to download.

A Prayer for the Schoolhouse Expo

by SharraMarch 15th, 2011

A Prayer for the Schoolhouse Expo
~Deb Wuehler

Father God, we come boldly before Your throne in the name of Your Son, Jesus
Christ. We ask for your divine guidance, strength, wisdom, and energy for
the Expo. Our desire is to glorify Your Name in all we say and do. We want
to honor You. We want to serve You. We want Your Name to be proclaimed at
this Expo. We ask that Your desires become our desires. We ask that you
would provide protection for technology, health for every person and family
involved, peace for our families during this time not only of preparation,
but during the entire Expo. You are a God who is gracious and kind; may we
be like You. You are a God who is abundant in goodness and truth; may we be
like You. Please go before us and prepare hearts and minds to receive from
You. May this Expo not only bring children home, but bring parents’ hearts
home to You as well. May we all learn what it is to homeschool with heart as
we learn about Your heart and Your love for us. May your love pour forth
from each and every one of us. Thank you for this time of ministry you’ve
given to us; may we be good stewards of this time you have entrusted to us.
We give this Expo to You and trust in Your Faithfulness to accomplish what
You desire.

Amen.

Hello everyone!

Our March 15th Preshow for the Schoolhouse Expo is coming up in just a few short days! We are going to have such a wonderful time!

When you officially register for the live online event,  you will receive a confirmation email with a unique URL for you to enter the event.

When you purchased your Schoolhouse Expo ticket in the Schoolhouse Store, you were given an Official Attendee Guide (PDF) with links to register within GoToWebinar for the online event. Registration is a two-step process and you will want to make sure you completed both steps. If you have any difficulties with your register process, please contact us by email so that we can assist!

If you haven’t bought your 2011 Schoolhouse Expo ticket yet, buy one today so you can enjoy these sessions with us on Tuesday! Your 2011 ticket gives you access to the bonus preshow sessions on March 15 and April 12, all of the sessions during Expo week (May 16-20), and mp3 recordings of every session after the event if over!

6pm to 7pm EDT:
Terri Johnson
Should We Teach With Tech?

Join Terri Johnson of Knowledge Quest and Apps-School.com for a lively session as we discuss many of the useful devices and software applications that can springboard and enhance our children’s education. Education as we know it is changing rapidly and homeschooling families are embracing this new revolution. Will we survive if textbooks go extinct? Absolutely! We’ll discuss technological resources for all grades along with some important considerations for high school.

7pm to 8pm EDT:
Malia Russell
Home Business and Homeschooling: The Dynamics of Delegation

Combining homemaking, homeschooling and home business creates a unique challenge for the mother who strives to do all she does in a way that brings glory to God and her children to maturity. Being a modern day P31 woman has unique challenges, but using the right tools and attitude toward delegation can make the balancing act a delightful challenge rather than an overwhelming flood of responsibilities. Join Malia Russell, wife to Duncan, mother to five children, and the director of Homemaking911.com and Wheat-n-things.com as she discusses the Dynamics of Delegation.

8pm to 9pm EDT:
Mary Jo Tate
How Do You Do It All? Balancing Family Life and
Home Business

Home business blends well with homeschooling, but it can also create frustration, exhaustion, and chaos. You may be paralyzed by an overwhelming to-do list and become trapped in a crisis-management approach to life. You may even wonder what good it does to be working at home if you’re too busy to spend time with your children. As a single homeschooling mom with four sons and a home business, Mary Jo Tate knows just how hard the challenges can be! She’ll share powerful strategies to help you move past the juggling act and find balance so you, your family, and your business can flourish.
We are looking forward to having you join us in just a few days! It is going to be such a great time of encouragement as we hear from these dynamic speakers!

Blessings to you from the Schoolhouse Expo Team!

Teens in Business? Sure!

by WendyFebruary 5th, 2011

More and more teenagers are starting their own businesses.  In fact, as homeschooling continues to grow, I think teen businesses will grow as well.  That’s one of the things that I love about homeschooling.  Our kids typically have “extra” time each day to pursue outside interests.   After all, if a teenager has extra time in his schedule, there are many things he could be filling it with!  Starting a business is definitely one of the better options!

For those of you who have teens in your house (or for those who soon will), you might be particularly interested in attending the Schoolhouse Expo this May 16-20.  For the first time, we will have a “Teen Track” especially devoted to the parents of teens and to the teenagers themselves!  You and your teens will have the opportunity to listen and learn together since your ticket purchase allows anyone in your family (or all of you together!) to “attend” our online Expo.  In fact, you will probably want to check out the scheduled speakers ahead of time so you can plan to be free to listen together since this information will be useful to moms and dads who have their own businesses (or would like to) also!

If you want to know more about the sessions that will be directly devoted to teens and their parents, check out this article:   http://bit.ly/gwe2fw.  You can also get information and purchase a ticket at our Schoolhouse Expo website:  www.schoolhouseexpo.com.   You can get your ticket for $19.50 (our Early Bird price) until midnight on Wednesday, February 9.   After that, the price will increase and some of the freebies will no longer be available.  All attendees will get a detailed schedule as well as information about how to “attend” each session closer to the Expo, so you’ll know ahead of time exactly when to tune in.

I’m looking forward to ”seeing” you at the Expo!
